Between Girod and Großholbach: the Multitalent Forest theme trail

Approach

Coming from Montabaur towards Limburg via L318, turn right after Girod onto the hiking parking lot.
Coming from Limburg, turn left before Girod onto the hiking parking lot.

From the A3 motorway, coming from either north or south, take the Diez exit and then reach Girod directly via L318.

Public transport

Coming by train from Cologne or Frankfurt, you travel to Montabaur.

By bus line 450 from Montabaur (central bus station directly at the ICE station) towards Limburg, you can reach Girod the easiest way. Alternatively, you can also reach Girod by bus with line 481.

Parking

You can park at the hiking parking lot directly on L318 coming from Montabaur, immediately on the right after Girod.

Directions

You begin this educational hike at the forest parking lot of Großholbach. An information board gives you an overview of the route. Passing the football field with a nicely located barbecue hut, a gravel path takes you into the forest. Some areas had to be cleared due to severe bark beetle infestation. Information boards explain the current significance of the forest, and some tall beeches and oaks line the path. At an intersection, you come across the hiking trail "Wäller Route Eisenbachtal." There, you continue straight ahead. Shortly after the information board about the forest as a wood supplier, the path splits, and you turn left. The path leads you slightly downhill over the next intersection. You reach a forest road, which you take to the left. Below the path, a cozy bench invites you to rest, and as the information board tells you: there you can really take a deep breath! After a relaxing pause, you continue straight ahead. At the explanations about the Wald waterworks, turn left. Shortly thereafter, you reach the display of the Nassau Nature Park. Again, turn left until you reach the sign: Sign Forestry, Sustainability in the World. You take the gravel road to the right and reach the intersection that you already know from your outbound route. To the right, it goes back to your starting point.

Equipment

Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate and practical clothing to protect you from cold and wet conditions or heat and sun.

Tips

A visit and a stop are worthwhile at the country inn "Studentenmühle" (quality host Wanderbares Deutschland) or at the "Freimühle" in the Eisenbachtal.
