Outdoor Activities for Kids

Quendelberg Recreation Park

Although only few hundred metres from the town centre, this park with adventure playground and diverse outdoor leisure and sports facilities is nestled in a rural setting. In winter, families go toboganning. In summer, there is fun for children of all ages: a large sand-pit with water pump and water course, half-pipe, basket swing, sports pitch, table-tennis tables, an outdoor basketball and volleyball court, seesaw, slides, climbing frames, slides, swings, whirl, zip line, trampoline, wooden play huts and an 18-hole miniature golf course.

And if after so much activity you're hungry and thirsty, why not check out the fun bistro in the middle of the park. The Quendelberg bistro offers ice-creams, drinks and tasty snacks. You can also book the barbecue area here.

Discover the "Multi- Talent Forest"

"I think I'm standing in the woods!" That's incredible!" Yes, it's really incredible what the forest all can do and is: a real multi- talent! It's all about the different functions and typical properties of the forest at the new themed trail multi- talent forest around the villages Girod and Großholbach in the association of municipalities Montabaur. The circular route is 3.8 kilometers long and tells on 15 information boards all about the forest as a recovery oasis for persons, as a habitat for plants and animals, as a waterworks and reservoir, as a climate protector and air freshener, as a hunting district, as an employer, as a wood deliverer and economic factor and finally as a paradigm of sustainability. The diversity of themes and hints lets hikers go through the forest with opened eyes and ears and sharpened senses. So the new themed trail becomes an equally sensual as well as revealing experience.

Nature Experience Walk

Understanding wood as a natural resource Learn about wood and woods whilst engaging with the natural environment

The local Tradition and Culture Workshop together with the village of Heilberscheid have built a Forest Experience Path in the woods near Heilberscheid.

Set out around the barbecue area is a 2-kilometre circuit with a series of stops which explore variations on the theme of wood.

For example, there is a wooden xylophone for sound, while other points illustrate the weight and density of different kinds of wood; the 12 stops also include a jumping pit, a model charcoal kiln, a barefoot path and an “insect hotel. This “sensational” experience awaits the visitor and enhances appreciation of the environment.
